Connecting with SFTP
SFTP lets you upload and manage your site's files from a program on your computer, instead of the dashboard.
The details you need
| Protocol | SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol), not FTP or FTPS |
|---|---|
| Host / server | sftp.pagehaus.app |
| Port | 2022 (not 21 or 22) |
| Username | yoursite (your site name), or an extra login like yoursite.designer |
| Password | Your Pagehaus password, or the login's own password if you set one |
SFTP is not FTP
Many programs say “FTP” for any kind of file transfer, but there are different protocols. Pagehaus uses SFTP, which runs over SSH and encrypts everything, including your password. Plain FTP sends your password unencrypted, so we don't offer it.
In your program, choose SFTP or SSH File Transfer Protocol, not “FTP” or
“FTP over TLS”, and use port 2022. Port 21 is for plain FTP and won't connect. If your
program has a single address box, type sftp://sftp.pagehaus.app; the sftp:// tells it which
protocol to use.
The first time you connect
Your program will say it doesn't recognise the server's key and show a fingerprint. That's normal the first time. Check it matches one of these, then choose to trust the server (and “always trust” if offered):
ED25519 SHA256:7xuQDDV9uCI+9RnbkaYrgeOcPk+JS1hsUblH+MvcVOAECDSA SHA256:wkET5chI5j8YpbAxvpEdY/OHdIWuJGZwqzNPK11pkPsRSA SHA256:l3191214GRjJYz4xTnZ2ggFslbQiPM6AX8DyVXzIC3o
If it ever shows a different fingerprint for sftp.pagehaus.app, stop and contact us.
Where your files go
After you connect you're in your site's top folder: index.html there is your home page at
https://yoursite.pagehaus.site/. Files go live as soon as they've uploaded.
Logins for other people
On Personal and Pro plans you can create extra logins in the dashboard's SFTP tab, for example
yoursite.designer. Each gets its own password, can be limited to one folder or made read-only, and can
be switched off at any time. Your own Pagehaus password never needs to be shared.
Signing in with an SSH key
Instead of a password you can use an SSH key: paste your public key (the contents of a .pub
file) into the login's settings in the SFTP tab. Your SFTP program then needs the matching private key.
